The "Why"
"Why." Promoting community interaction and ultimately influencing change through votes. Promoting awareness of the LatinX community and establishing a presence in Holland will help change the LatinX community, most importantly for the younger generations. To "Esperanza del Futuro" or "Save the Future" That is 'why' LAUP drives to grow and sponsor such dynamic events.
Fajita Fundraiser
The "Fajita Fundraiser" event organized by LAUP exemplifies the goal of hosting communal activities and events for all members of the Holland community. These events grow their community outreach and influence in Holland. Additionally, the partnership with local, Latin owned business, serves as a mutually beneficial relationship as the event not only exposes the community to the business but vise versa as well.
Cultural Connections
Having strong connections to traditions and heritage is important to maintain the legacy of the Latin community. This display of traditional dance brings a sense of pride and joy to the LAUP community, connecting them back to who they are and who they represent. Events like this reinforce the idea of promoting community engagement in order to grow cohesion and participation in the pursuit of LAUP's goals for the greater Holland Community.
Link to Heritage
LAUP stages a display of Mexican heritage with the aim of trying to maintain and teach Latin traditions in the Holland-Latin community. Working to reflect that origin, Traditional dancing/acting/music is displayed to expose, teach, and remind the Holland community about Mexican culture. As LAUP grows, more and more Latin cultures will be reflected in similar cultural events.
Growth
LAUP’s communal events have continuously grown as exemplified by the record growth of 'Fiesta' in 1989. Since then it is estimated that the "Fiesta" crowd has grown by approximately 16,000 people which expresses recognition that LAUP is backed and supported by the Holland community. Ultimately it shows that their efforts are being rewarded; That they are growing and their influence is expanding; however, LAUP must keep going as their work is not done and will not be done until everyone has a voice.
