Power of Mentors

State award presented to Juan Vega for his work and mentorship in Holland Public Schools. 

We ask you to pause and take a moment to think about the various teachers you've had throughout your own education. 

What did they look like? 

For many students in Holland, MI a majority of their teachers and administrators are White, English speakers. 

This award was presented to Juan Vega, for his commitment to being a student advocate in Holland schools. Mr.Vega was a member of the Hispanic community and actively volunteered with LAUP. Mentors like Vega highlight how important it is that students are able to see people like them in positions of leadership.  A diverse staff of teachers is one of the resources that a school can offer to ensure each student can make connections and feel supported throughout their educational journey.
