LAUP History

How is Hope reacting?

Hope is not blind to these statistics, both on their own campus and in their surrounding community. The college also values mentorship and recognizes the necessity of resources and support for Latinx students.

So what are they doing about it? One way is the various programs for minority, first generation, and low income students:

  • TRIO Upward Bound: "a pre-college preparatory program for students grades 8-12 who are interested in pursuing an educational program beyond high school" with a specific focus on first generation students coming from low income families.

  • Children's After School Achievement (CASA): "a community after-school program... that promotes educational achievement among underrepresented children... to build strong learners in the early years of their education, support their right to quality education, and promote equal access to the tools they need to be successful"

  • StepUp: "helps middle school students succeed in school and develop their future potential by caring for their social, emotional and academic needs within a mentoring context" by providing academic support, mentoring relationships, enrichment programming, a summer program, and parent support and involvement.
